Ballard Services designs and installs residential solar and battery systems across Auckland’s North Shore. Array, hybrid inverter and battery are specified as one system, sized against your actual load curve rather than a brochure average, and the installation is certified by our own Registered Electrical Inspector.

Design first

Every system starts with your consumption, not a catalogue. We look at when your household actually uses power, the orientation and pitch of the roof, shading from trees and neighbouring buildings, and the export rules on your connection. Peninsula and coastal homes bring their own geometry: villa roofs face where the street pointed them in 1910, not where the sun is. The design answers all of it on paper first. A drawing before a dollar is spent.

One crew, whole system

Board, array, inverter, battery, and an EV charger if you want one, installed and certified by the same people. If the switchboard needs upgrading to carry the system, that is designed and quoted as part of the same job, not discovered halfway through by a subcontractor. Nothing gets lost between trades because there is only one trade on the job.

What a battery actually does

Three things, honestly stated. Self-consumption: the power your array makes at midday runs your house at night instead of being exported for cents. Resilience: with a hybrid inverter configured for backup, nominated circuits ride through outages. Time-of-use shifting: charge when power is cheap, use it when it is not. What a battery does not do is pay for itself on every roof, and we will not inflate the numbers to sell you one. If your load curve does not justify it, we design the system battery-ready and leave the choice with you.

Certification and compliance

Solar and battery work is prescribed electrical work, and the installation is only as good as its paperwork when you sell the house or claim on insurance. Our installs are inspection-grade because the inspector is in-house: tested, recorded, certified, with the drawings and hand-over documents to match. Every installation carries a 12 month workmanship guarantee.

Is my roof suitable for solar?

Most North Shore roofs can carry a worthwhile array, but orientation, pitch, shading and the roof material decide how much. We assess the actual roof and your actual consumption before proposing anything, and the drawing shows exactly what goes where.

Do I need a battery?

Not always. A battery earns its keep if you are out during the day and home at night, want resilience through outages, or are on a time-of-use tariff. If the numbers do not support one for your household, we say so and design the system battery-ready instead.

What happens in a power cut?

A standard grid-tied solar system shuts down in an outage. With a battery and a hybrid inverter configured for backup, nominated circuits keep running. If outage resilience matters to you, we design for it explicitly rather than leaving it to the fine print.

How long does installation take?

A typical residential array and battery is installed in one to three days on site, depending on roof access and whether the switchboard needs work first. The fixed quote states the duration for your job.

Do you handle the paperwork with my retailer?

Yes. Network approval, inspection, certification and the hand-over records are part of the job, and we issue the inspection paperwork in-house. You get a system that is connected, compliant and documented.
