About Ballard Services

Ballard Services is a family-owned electrical business trading from Devonport since 2011, led by Toby Ballard, a Registered Electrical Inspector with 26 years in the trade. We treat a house as a system: designed once, installed properly, and certified by the person who did the work.

The company

Most electrical work arrives in pieces: a sparky for the board, someone else for the array, a third party to certify it. Ballard Services was built to do the lot. Design, installation, inspection and certification sit under one roof on the Devonport peninsula, which means nothing gets lost between trades and nothing waits weeks for a third party’s diary.

The work runs from general residential and commercial electrical through solar and battery systems to third-party inspections and reports, across Auckland’s North Shore. Every job carries a 12 month workmanship guarantee, and every quote comes back inside two working days as a fixed price with a drawing.

Toby started his apprenticeship at 17 and has spent 26 years in the trade since. The early years ran through Wanaka and the ski fields, where electrical work means keeping lifts, lodges and infrastructure alive in conditions that punish shortcuts. That background shows in how Ballard Services works today: design for the environment, install for the decade, certify what you did.

For the last 16 years Toby has serviced Devonport and the peninsula, trading as Ballard Services since 2011. He is both a Qualified Electrician and a Registered Electrical Inspector, a combination that lets the business issue its own Certificates of Verification, Records of Inspection and switchboard reports, and inspect other electricians’ work independently. The scope has widened with the years: residential, commercial, marine, off-grid and solar, with a soft spot for the structurally awkward jobs nobody else will take on.

Away from the tools, Toby lives on the peninsula with Sophie and their three kids, plus Paige the cat and Ziggy the dog. The house, naturally, is the test bed.
